“No one can whistle a symphony. It takes a whole orchestra to play it” – HE Luccock
The symphony at Ringgold County Hospital may not be as easy on the ears as a group of talented musicians, but what we do have is orchestrated beauty of health care delivery in our emergency department. This department is lead by our emergency medical director and our Iowa Hospital Hero, Dr. Angela Kerchner.
As an orchestra would practice for a symphony, our emergency department staff practice as well, and education is a top priority for Dr. Kerchner. Leading with standards of care and providing education and team engagement initiatives, the emergency department has seen a wonderful transformation. Emergency medical services, nursing, pharmacy, lab, respiratory and radiology staff have been “entertained” and educated both in person and in videos where Dr. Kerchner weaves sitcom for a memorable experience with the curriculum.
Harmony is what Dr. Kerchner portrays in her work and everyday life. Always greeting staff with a smile, she displays her objectives for service excellence. She practices what she preaches and is a respected role model. Dr Kerchner provides so many services to the hospital and continues to build a culture of trust, positive communication and dedication to meeting the needs of our patients and their families.
She also provides another service to the hospital by bringing her therapy dog, Winkey, to visit with patients and relieve anxiety associated with illness. Dr. Kerchner is humble in her role and always manages up, promoting others in her actions and speech. She believes in RCH and is a critical part of our success!
